Planting is where creativity meets environmental responsibility. At Roots Shoots & Boots, our planting plans are designed to create beautiful, expressive gardens that work in harmony with nature while delivering structure, seasonal interest, and long-term resilience.

Every planting plan is tailored to your garden’s aspect, scale, and natural conditions. We prioritise climate-appropriate, resilient plant selections that thrive in their setting, reducing the need for excessive intervention while supporting biodiversity and seasonal balance.

Our eco-focused approach includes the considered use of bulbs and corms to provide early and late seasonal interest, lasagna planting techniques to extend flowering periods naturally, and sweeping swathes, glades, and drifts that echo nature’s own planting patterns. In smaller areas, clustered planting is used to create pockets of colour and visual focus without over-planting.

Flourish with Respect

Trees are an integral part of our planting designs. Whether introducing productive orchards, planting statement trees as focal points, or establishing copses to provide structure, shelter, and habitat, each tree is selected for its suitability, longevity, and contribution to the wider garden ecosystem.

Shrubs are positioned as strong, sustainable anchors within the design, with statement specimens under-planted with progressive layers of perennials. This creates depth, continuity, and evolving interest through the seasons while encouraging pollinators and beneficial wildlife.

Colour selection is approached with both creativity and restraint. We design planting palettes that may be soft and harmonious, built from complementary tones and subtle shifts in hue, or bold and expressive, using dramatic contrasts or large, painterly sweeps of colour inspired by a Jason Pollock-style approach. In all cases, colour is used thoughtfully to enhance the garden without compromising balance or sustainability.

Our planting plans can be delivered as a standalone service or fully integrated with our garden design, hard landscaping, and ongoing maintenance programmes — ensuring planting schemes establish successfully and continue to flourish with respect for the environment.
